Internships at Project PAVE
Internship and practicum students have been integral volunteer members of the Project PAVE team since its start in 1986. Each school year, we take on one or more interns to work alongside staff members for our programs. Interns receive real-world experience in chosen career paths while helping fulfill the mission and vision of Project PAVE. Interns have held positions involving educating teens on teen dating violence, coordinating safe-school fairs for partner schools, interviewing and supporting scholarship recipients, developing counseling evaluation tools, and counseling children and youth impacted by relationship violence. Most major universities in the Denver area have been represented through Project PAVE internships. While students from varying educational backgrounds have interned here, students from social work, psychology, counseling, human services, and non-profit management programs are a particularly good fit.
Duration, Supervision, Expectations, and Workspace
While we prefer working with students for an entire school year, some positions may only require a semester commitment. All students completing internships will have clear job expectations, an assigned workspace, and regular meetings with a designated supervisor. Supervision is an important part of any internship and taken seriously at Project PAVE. Requests for Masters level and/or licensed supervisors may be accommodated depending on the availability of staff and the nature of the internship position.
Masters in Social Work Students
Presently, Project PAVE cannot provide licensed social work supervision for interns. Interns requiring supervision from a licensed clinical social worker may still be able to complete an internship at Project PAVE, but will need to arrange for their own supervision with a licensed individual. University internship coordinators will likely be able to help students find the supervision they need.
Applying for Internship Positions
Typically, decisions about internship needs are made once a year, in the spring prior to a fall semester/quarter. Announcements about internship positions are posted here on the website as they become available. Instructions for applying can be found on each position announcement. If you are interested in a position posted here, complete the internship application form on this page, being sure to indicate your desired position. Project PAVE’s program director will get back to you quickly with more details about the application and selection process. Please note that you may be required to complete and pass a criminal background check prior to starting, depending on the nature of your internship. The program director will have more information and walk you through this process.
