PAVE YOUTH – Where Are They Now?
“PAVE cracked the door open that led to a future where I am now 22 and not only know of interpersonal violence but am able to educate others on how they deserve to be treated in every relationship. I use the tools PAVE gave me daily to find my boundaries and ensure they are respected. This was so much more than a scholarship, and while I’m ever grateful for every book and tuition bill PAVE helped me pay, I am most grateful for the life this scholarship showed me I deserved to have.” Through the help and trust of the Project PAVE Scholarship I was able to get peace of mind. I was able to focus on my schooling, focus on things that would get me to where I am today. Alongside monetary help it also made me more committed to healthy relationships. While being a refugee, situations change, relationships change, and most you don’t have control over. However, through my exposure at PAVE and having the opportunity to meet some inspiring young adults, I have reflected on those changes and recognized healthy from unhealthy.” “By receiving the Transformation Scholarship, I was able to further develop my skills as a young professional and a leader. I used the values that Project PAVE holds to integrate a new level of understanding and compassion for those around me. The level of understanding that Project PAVE emphasizes in healthy relationship was easily translated into a business environment for me and that is a skill that I pride myself on.” “Project PAVE really helped me to rethink the way I view relationships, both personally and professionally. The idea of helping to foster healthy relationships pushed me towards a field I never really saw myself in: HR. It has helped me in the people operations realm in being able to foster a workplace that allows for positive relationships and collaboration.” “What I learned from PAVE that I exercise almost everyday in my relationships is communication! It’s important for everyone to be heard so things can be changed for the better and that everyone is understood. PAVE really helped me understand the people around me and how to relate with others. When I made the big decision to move to a whole new state all by myself it was hard at first, but having all the resources that I learned through PAVE I was able to get to where I am now.” “PAVE helped shape my ability to properly express myself in a healthy way. It allowed me to reflect on my life and learn and grow and heal as a person. It helped drive me to become an RA for a summer program for 1st gen low-income incoming students and find/share resources with them for mental health, sexuality, abuse, and primary health.” “I will always remember the cycle of abuse and red flags and how it works and I share it with friends and family to let them know as well. It is an amazing program and I hope to volunteer someday.” “I love PAVE and what they do for the community. PAVE was and still is a huge part of my life. I value myself and who I am. I always remember to stay true to myself because PAVE empowered me to see my worth.”
